Ok, well this guide is my collection of the top 10 most important things that I wish I had known when I started playing the game. I learned them over time but I really wish there had been an article like this to save me alot of time and make things alot easier.
#1: Download Free Gold Coins
Click "Shop" click "Coins" at the top and then "Free Gold Coins" at the bottom. Gold is the lifeblood of the game. You use Gold to buy everything from pets to equipment. You will use Tapjoy to download free applications and run them. After that, go to "Purchased Coins" in your Mail and open the attachment after completing the requirement by Tapjoy for your free Gold.
#2: How to Get Silver
Silver is really important because alot of items in Shops and Skills beyond Skill level 10 will require Silver to learn them. You can go to "Shop" and "Coins" to buy Silver with real $. If you don't have money to spend, download free apps for Gold and then click "Shop" and "Exchange" at the top to convert Gold into Silver. Every 1 Gold = 10 Silver. You cannot send or mail Silver (unlike Gold or Copper) to anyone so make sure you don't convert your Gold into Silver until you plan to use the Silver.
#3: Join an Empire
Ok, so the game is called Empire Online. Naturally, you can look for an empire to join and make friends in the game. Click "Social" at the bottom to see a list of empires. You will see the name on the left, the empire's power (how strong the empire is) in the middle, and an arrow to visit the empire on the right (little yellow arrow). Some empires will charge a fee for you to visit them so pay attention to the box that pops up. If you are a member of the empire, the fee won't apply to you. Anyway, look for an empire that looks fun and appy by clicking "Join." A General or the Emperor will see your Application to join when he or she logs on and may decide to accept you into the empire. Keep in mind that bigger is not always better. Look for an empire that seems helpful and that you like. You can always move to a different empire later if you want so don't be afraid to join one and start making friends.
#4: Allocating Stats
There are currently 6 different Stats that players can assign Stat Points. By the way, every level you will get 3 more Stat Points. Click the Picture of your Avatar and assign them in the "Basic" tab just like the tutorial shows. The six Stats are:
- STR = gives melee/range damage and some health (hp)
- CON = gives health and melee defense
- DEX = gives dodge and melee/range defense
- AGI = gives speed, dodge, and some melee/range damage
- INT = gives magic damage, some mana point (mp), and some magic defense
- WIL = gives mana point, magic defense, some magic damage, and some speed
Generally speaking, Warriors rely more on STR for damage and a little CON for health. Kung Fu fighters use AGI for speed and damage with some STR for extra punch. Hunters rely almost exclusively on AGI for lightning speed and dodge and maybe a little STR for damage or DEX for defense/dodge but mostly just AGI. Wizards have primarily INT for damage and WIL for more mp (very important for Wizards). Shamans allocate stats depending if they want to mirror an other kind of build. I recommend players start off with the Warrior as it is pretty basic and arguably the easiest for a new player to build. Hunters and Wizards tend to be more difficult at first. Kung Fu can be quite fun to play as well but save Shaman until later until you have learned a little more about the game. You will enjoy your Shaman much more if you do.
#5: Where do I get Skills?
Odds are your have seen a place or two to get skills. Did you know that many of the top empires have training institutes which can teach you just about any skill you want? Go to "Social" and visit one of the top 3 empires (make sure they don't have a fee up at the time). Look around for different institutes such as Warrior, Hunter, Wizard, Kung Fu, and Shaman. These buildings will allow you to learn many skills. Try to stick with skills from your own class at first (i.e. if you are a Warrior don't learn too many non-Warrior skills until you learn a bit more about the game). Skills from other classes cost twice as many Skill Points to use so choose wisely!
I would recommend every play gets the Warrior skill "Iron Body" to level10. This skill will add to your health early on and help you fight monsters at lower levels. Also look at the Kung Fu skill "Sun Spirit" to level9. If you check the box on this automatic skill, you will get back +260 hp every round of a fight (+520 hp a round if it is your only automatic skill from round 2 onward). You can drop skills later, but these will make fighting monsters much easier when you first start out.
#6: Get +1000 hp or +1000 mp
Remember how I said you can earn Gold and convert it into Silver? Well, the level12 Item Shop in the top 3 empires sells what are called "Empire - Lv8 HP Charm" and "Empire - Lv8 MP Charm." The HP charm gives you +1000 health and the MP charm gives +1000 mp. Go to one of the top empires (make sure there is no entry fee or chose a different one), find the Item Shop and scroll down to level12 Item Shop. It might look like there is only lv10 but it will scroll down. See what price the charm you want costs and convert some of your Gold into Silver and buy it! For as little as 11 Gold you can really boost your characters health! I recommend getting the HP charm for beginners.
#7: Do Residence Quests
Empires have buildings called Residences. These buildings affect how many people can live in the empire. They also give quests you can do each day. Depending on your level, do as many as you can. Each one has you kill a boss that chances are you have already beaten and is a very easy and quick way to get +3500 xp and 1 contribution point for the empire. However, you have to be a member of an empire in order to take a Residence Quest there. If the empire doesn't have a Residence...well you won't be able to do any Residence Quests!
#8: Website Resources
There are several helpful websites with hints and many helpful strategies. Obviously Lakoo's forums are a great resource. I wasn't sure whether I could put URLs here or not after reading Lakoo's rules so I'll just mention a few other online resources. Rhastar has done a great job with Empire Junkies. This site is a great resource with many tips and tricks - it is a MUST visit. Also, go to Empire Junkies "Contact" button and look at "Friends." Moonlite and Chronz have real good articles too! They are very valuable for build ideas and strategies.
#9: Chat Functions
You probably see messages pop up on your screen all the time. First off, [W] means the message is visible to the whole Empire Online world. [E] means only empire members can see it. [A] directs the message to anyone in the area you are in while [P] lets only who you are talking to see the message. you can toggle between chat modes by using the button in the bottom left of the chat menu. More importantly, you can turn off which type of chats you do NOT want to see. Click "More" and unmark the boxes at the bottom for World, Empire, or Area chat and you won't see these messages until you mark them again.
#10: Play Nice
Don't pick on people or be mean! Don't be mean in chat or PVP (or fight) people without asking. Why you may ask? First of all, it's just plain rude and not nice. Ok, some people may not care about that. However, most people who play the game are quite nice and helpful. If you PVP without asking, odds are someone may notice and do the same to you. Also, you don't know whether the lv15 you just beat up has several much higher level players who will come help get revenge... Ask first and respect the other person if they don't want to fight you. Don't click the PVP button (called forcing PVP) without getting an OK. Trust me, you won't make enemies that way and will have a much more enjoyable game. Same thing goes for chat. Don't call people names or insult people. Everyone remembers when people are mean to them. You might want the help of that player or his friends some day. Also, other people may hear you and decide not to help you just because you were mean.
Hope these tips are of help!
Cheers,
Alleluia
