Empire Online is a very fun game. Each person has his or her own way of playing, making friends, and enjoying the game. For me, I like to roleplay my characters (no, not the 10 year old world chat stuff :)
What Roleplaying IS:
Roleplaying involves building a character with his or her own unique set of skills and knowledge based on experiences in the game. A character developes its own mannerisms and personality over time independent of what the creator may know. The character responds to situations based on its experiences and developed personality even when its creator may react differently in real life. Information is filtered so that secrets learned or friendships formed by one character are not transferred to other characters owned by the creator since each roleplayed character is unique and separate.
What Roleplaying Is NOT:
Just having multiple characters does not constitute roleplaying. Many people have multiple characters (alts) but find it difficult to act independently. The creator dominates the actions of all the characters based on overall experience. For example, Character A gets pvped repeatedly by XXX and so Character B starts of with a grudge against XXX even though that player has done nothing against Character B to warrant it. Hence, the characters all tend to have the same affiliation and attitude. While roleplaying usually involves having the creator secret to avoid transferring information or allies/enemies, just having secrets alts does not make a person a successful roleplayer.
My Roleplaying Guidelines:
- Empire Online is a game and fun. Don't take things personally :)
- Keep an open mind. You may understand and even befriend characters your other roleplaying character may not care for ;)
- Always be in character!
- Be loyal to friends and empire of the character
- Never share information or betray the trust placed in a roleplayed (or any) character

PS: Each of my characters is who and where he/she is through individual events is game. I have found that roleplaying is a great way to make new friends and be exposed to new viewpoints that you otherwise may not have. I have found many good friends, supportive empires, and alot of fun. Don't worry if you have forced pvped or otherwise behaved rudely to a character of mine. My characters start out quite pacifist, don't generally hold grudges, and definitely don't seek revenge for my other characters :) Also, friends of one character are not automatically friends of other characters unless they meet and make friends in game. A good lesson to us all to be nice to everyone. You never know who is who :)
